About the Activity
Would you want to make a difference in the next generation?
TOUCH Young Arrows (TYA) is a service of TOUCH Community Services (TCS). We serve around 500 children aged 5 to 14 years old from low-income and/or single-parent families through our weekly TYA programmes such as free academic coaching in school subjects (English and Mathematics), values-driven activities and year-round family bonding events. Through these activities, we aim to help the children realise their full potential and gain the confidence to pursue their dreams and aspirations.
Volunteers will be role models to children and provide weekly one and a half hours of free academic coaching (English and Mathematics) followed by one hour of character development and creative learning activities.
Volunteers will have to commit weekly over a period of
at least one year
.
Suitable for
Volunteers who like to mentor children and are familiar with the Singapore Education Curriculum.
Role Description
- Mentor children in English and Mathematics
- Plan and interact with children through values-driven activities
- Support club leaders in maintaining order and guiding children to develop positive attitudes and behaviour
- Take care of the children and watch over their safety at all times be it at the centre or during outings
- Participate in annual events and planning
Minimum Age
15 years old
Commitment
Weekly - Saturday mornings or afternoons over a period of at least one year
FAQs
Q: Do I need to have teaching qualifications?
A:
No. But you should be comfortable in giving tuition in English and Mathematics and familiar with Singapore Education System and Curriculum.
Q:
I am not schooled in Singapore Education system. Can I still volunteer?
A:
Yes you can. However, you must possess good English literacy and numeracy skills and willing to learn the differences in the curriculum.
Q:
I am not able to commit for one year. Can I still volunteer?
A:
Children will need a consistent volunteer. Hence, we will not be accepting volunteers that cannot commit.
